Google Random Image
Google Random Image is a little javascript code that scans the html of the page it is on and uses that to find a matching image on Google Image Search, which is then displayed. This way you can always have a fresh image on your site/blog.
Using Javascript to get a result from Google is tricky; you can load a page in a iframe, but you're not allowed to analyse the contents of that page. So I thought, I'd load the google image result page in a 150x150 iframe and then scroll so that only the first thumbnail image is visible, but that didn't work either; you're not allowed to scroll foreign windows. In the end I dynamically create an 1000x1000 iframe with the google results, that sits in a 150x150 iframe. Since the 150x150 iframe is not foreign, it can be scrolled from code.
The current applet shows the results of a Google image search using a random word longer than three characters from the site it sits on. You can easily change this 3, it sits in a rather obvious place. The script workds on IE 6, it doesn't on Mozilla, which is really too bad, as it is my main browser. Let me know if you can fix that. The script retrieves a new image every 60 seconds.

If you want to use this gadget on your own site, copy the code from the box below and paste it into the html code
of your site. If you paste it into the template of your blog, you'll have fresh images everyday on your page. You can do
whatever you want with the script, as long as you give credit to me with a link back

The reason you have trouble understanding scripts and hacking is because you have a) absolutely no idea what it really entails and b) you are 15.
And asking someone to show you how to hack in an email is pathetic is you ask me.

I'm ten and I know PHP, C, C++, MySQL, Javascript, HTML, XHTML (Okay Okay, I guess they're the same thing), Visual basic, C#, PASCAL, QBASIC, Apache, and a lot of other stuff, and I'm only ten, so that proves that 15 yr olds are smart!

Hacking...
by stout
If you want to learn how to hack, it's really easy.
First you learn how to be a systems adminsitrator of both windows and linux servers and workstations.
Then you learn how to be a network administrator.
Then you learn how to program in C, C++, and assembler. Other programming languages can be helpful, but these are the 3 you really need to know.
Once you have attained proficiency in the above to a degree where, well, you HAVE a degree (as in the baccalaureate type), you'll realize how dumb of a thing "can you teach me how to hack" is.

Actually I don't have a degree in computer science and I know how dumb a question that is.
Anyways this script would work better if it picked out the first image and showed the thumbnail of it. That could probably be done in PHP, I'll look into it. I have a general idea of how it could be done but I don't know if there is a function to do everything I need to.

by To really under-estimate the "exiting childhood, entering age of drivers license" people is wrong!!!!
Very interesting news: There's a new computer company coming soon. It will make Microsoft seem like any other software company, and it will make Apple seem like just any other computer maker. We will have an implementation of the Internet (still a free database with no owner), with features that not even Internet2 can surpass or equal. Its a software company. Its a hardware company. it does wide-range cellular wireless internet, satellite communications, very cheap handheld computers which are as powerful as their wire-based predecessor processors, and more. I will not release any more information than that I will be the president of the company, and it will start (hopefully) between January 2015 and December 2035, and this is so new information that I dont have a company website or 800 number. And I am only 12 yrs. old. That proves that 15-year olders can be smart. Also Business-wise.

I think one of the reasons that it doesn't work in Mozilla is relatetd to the span and onclick-element.
Would be great to see a serverside version of this, perhaps xml-based, if Google has xml output that is.

Intelligent 10 year olds, 12 year olds, and 15 yer olds, your not old enough to understand how smart you arent. This can only come with years. You cant snap and make yourself older. Knowing a programming language does not make you smart, knowing ten does not make you smart, knowing that it takes years of experience to aquire intelligence and wisdom is the key, something your impatience has not yet delivered you. By the way skanky 10 year year old knowing a bit of code in each language is not knowing each language, I can say hello in fifty languages, does that mean I can speak them no. Grow Up.

Fix for Mozilla?
by A 15 year old (ironically enough
I think I may have figured out why the script doesn't work in Mozilla. In loadword(), you have...
var oReplaceNode = document.getElementById("searchLabel").childNodes(0);
I have a hunch this is supposed to be...
var oReplaceNode = document.getElementById("searchLabel").childNodes[0];
(note the different type of brackets at the end)

and heres the misconception of the misconcetion of the word hack, the n00b thinks that its called cracking, but a cracker is a black hat cracker=black hat black hat=cracker, if you dont know what a black hat is i wonder how such a noob could even read this, hack is to hack into system, take control, steal info, Crack is only based on whats called Cracking not Hacking, cracking is destroying things hacking is what the best hackers do, cracking is a script kiddo if you want to become a hacker, Ha, you dont ask someone to teach yoou in an email, like when i started, i already knew java html php c++ c pascal and a couple of other half breeds If you dont know any of these, or any else, dont even think that you ever could be a hacker,

People need to stop posting rubbish commments on forums about how they want to learn how to hack actually do something about it. Im 12 and im just starting to learn how to hack (im mainly a game programmer) but i don't just post pointless comment after pointless comment trying to get people to teach me to hack in a single email. There are loads of websites that teach people to hack like: http://www.hackthissite.org so do something about it and stop just writing pointsless posts!!! Its not worth learning to hack unless your 100% commited to it. My advice is that if you jast want to learn to hack so you can piss off your friends by hacking into their emails then don't bother!

personally, i find most of the comments pertaining to 10/12/15 etc years-olds offensive. there are intelligent people and idiots of all ages. i think the only other likely real 12 year old who posted on this site feels the same way in general as i do, and that any ~10-15 year olds visiting this site would feel the same way.
i recently turned 13 and have been interested in computers for about six months. i am just beginning with php programming. that said, the only/best way in my opinion to learn a language (programming, aural) is to learn the basics and then apply it in a project.
btw, using abbreviations (if they can even be called that) such as "thx", "u", "r", "dat" in excess is NOT cool and is extremely annoying.
i agree.
by pavarr
I agree with Scotty. I am 14, and started learning php two years ago. For me, what decides if you are smart or not, is if you know your limitations (i.e. while you are beginner to something, you will not say "I'm a programmer", but "I'm a beginner in..."). Scotty seems to know what he is able to, I hope that so do I. But this 10 year old... he was pathetic, but making such big "offtopic" because of one childish guy who wants to show himself... you are not better than him. Back on the earth, ladies and gentlemen.

However, you are the ones that are bombarding them with being as stupid as they are. It's not your place. Not to mention that all of everyone else posting about how SMART they are has all been said. Bugger off the topic, it has nothing to do with what this whole comment thing was meant for. It was meant for this one Google hack and you're all bickering over whether or not 15 year olds are smart or stupid. Yea, that's real mature. Bloody brilliant.
My two cents, however: Not knowing code does not make a person stupid. There are other areas in which you can be smart. Think about it.

i would just like to know why adults like myself are engaging in a silly and immature power struggle over the issue of children being smarter or adults being smarter. i would think that adults have better and more mature things to do than pick on young people. young people are smarter than adults in many, many ways, and adults are smarter than children in many, many ways. the ways in which people are smarter are different too. so when it equals out, everyone has the same amount of wisdon, just in different ways. can we stop this foolish power struggle??

Offended Fifteen Year Old
by Ditto
One does not change in inteligence over the years one simply changes in experience. Experience may seem to represent intellignce in many ways but really it is just what we may percieve as it when we talk or such, with them. An adults brain is completed and basicly unable to learn new things while a child is open to ideas and much more able to adapt to situitations. An example of this is how a young child finds it much easier to learn a foreign language when they move to that country, and an adult does not.
Also, Being a computer scientist does not mean you are really smart. It means that really you are incredibly stupid to go into a profession where there is no money and no reward (this obviously excludes a select few people eg. Bill Gates). So you have fun looking at pages and pages of code while I do science experiments.
PS. I know for a fact that most computer Scientists end up hating computers.
Cheers. 15yr.

by Tharglet
It's not what you know - it's what you do with it. Knowing more can lead to doing stupid things. What does it matter u can make something really complex if you can do something a lot simpler that does the job? Twas the downfall of a few ppl last year at uni. KISS is such a true phrase ;)
I love it.
by Danny
I love the fact that age has even become an issue here. One's age is completely unrelated to his or her capabilities or capacity for comprehension (unintentional alliteration, sorry). There was a boy, a long time ago in Austria. He was a musician, composing great symphonies and concertos for kings and great halls. What made him different? He was six. Mozart was a child, but he was a genius. This is hardly the only example of childhood intelligence, but I really don't care to continue. Some fifteen year olds are actually very, very competent. This isn't to say they ALL are; there are of course those of lesser intelligence. Anyway, to sum up my ramblings, generalizing that all young teens are less capable or intelligent than adults is infantile and ignorant. I'm willing to bet that there are many fifteen year olds in this world who could compare well to the most intelligent of adults. By the way, I'm fifteen.
Hey stupid 15-year-olds, stop giving us a bad name.
by cRazYhAck3r
Danny: I'm glad you used spell check and put a few vocab. words to good use (My English class just learned about alliterations too! LOL) and I liked the Mozart example, but you're still wrong. Age of course has a lot to do with intelligence. Everyone knows this. I guess 'knowledgeable' would be a better term to use. Whatever. The point is - you try too hard. Don't worry we'll see the light one day and laugh about how smart we thought we were. Ditto: Who said anything about computer scientists? Did you mean hackers? There is a difference. Hey, you know, I was going to make some point about how "stupid" you are but here just re-read something you wrote... "Also, Being a computer scientist does not mean you are really smart. It means that really you are incredibly stupid to go into a profession where there is no money and no reward (this obviously excludes a select few people eg. Bill Gates). So you have fun looking at pages and pages of code while I do science experiments." I hope that cleared it up. Oh yeah, I was the 10 year old that posted who know millions of languages. IT WAS A JOKE. Grow up... everyone. If you couldn't see past that bullshit, you're really stupid. I'm actually 7.

Stooping to depths...
by Dan
Firstly, with regard to your quote "im sorry bt im 14, r u sayin i hav little knowledge of computing and hackin, cos i believe ur WRONG!": Whilst you may have knowledge of computing and hackin [sic], you don't appear to have any knowledge of English grammar or spelling. Eight spelling errors and four grammatical errors in a single sentence is really quite appalling.
Secondly, with regard to the comment "I'm ten and I know PHP, C, C++, MySQL, Javascript, HTML, XHTML (Okay Okay, I guess they're the same thing), Visual basic, C#, PASCAL, QBASIC, Apache, and a lot of other stuff, and I'm only ten, so that proves that 15 yr olds are smart!" by ToonTownAholic24: I commend you on having such a broad knowledge of programming languages at such a young age. I must point out, however, that HTML and XHTML are far from the same thing. Whilst they can broadly give a similar output on-screen, the underlying language structure is quite different. XHTML is an XML-compliant language conforming to the W3C specifications, whereas HTML is not, and as such the two differ substantially.
I'm not usually one for stooping to such depths as to join a flame war, however I found this comment thread somewhat amusing as a software engineer with some 12 years commercial experience, and thought I would add a comment to pass a little time.

yall are some dumb nigger stupid shits Why would anyone want this bullshit script kiddies
duh
by read every now and then
ummm....yea the script doesnt work on myspace because myspace doesnt allow javascript. it clearly says that, and if you knew anything about a reading you would know that as soon as you started myspace. and about the age thing, no real hacker would go to "google hacks" just to comment on a pointless script, so obviously this is mostly kids bragging about being a proggrammer so all the idiots in here need to shut up.

Age
by Otal
I find this a fascinating code-thingy... Whatever.
And I agree. Knowing computer languages does not make you smarter than other 15 year olds. I myself am fifteen years old, and don't know ANY programming language. I'm not good with computers. But I AM highly intelligent, with the tests, statements, and all sorts of stuff to prove it, and I'm SURELY intelligent enough to know that "Can you teach me how to hack?" Is a frakking stupid question. Would you ask someone over the internet to teach you how to run a 4 minute mile? How to play basketball well? The 'hacking' that surely the person was THINKING of, or in fact ANY hacking is a complex learning process which takes days, weeks, months, even YEARS of training, and some people STILL aren't good at it. People think that if they can't be as strong or fast as the other kids, they can hack into their computers and DESTROY THEIR LIVES, BWAHAHAHAAA... Ooops, got carried away. ANYWAY, the point is that it's no different from basketball, running, or even gaming. Being the 'world-renowned hacker' that everyone wants to be, just like athletics and gaming requires talent, natural abilities, and a bit of luck.
Of course, maybe the many friends I have who ARE good with computers are just playing a nasty joke on me, and a retard could do it with one hand, but I think that what they say is more likely.

What is knowledge?
by Bagel
Hey guys the only true knowledge is knowing Christ is Savior!
15 yr olds
by el' deadly duck
at 15, i could access about anything and already knew 3 programming languages. at 15, you should know what the word "hack" means and understand that you are not taught to "hack", nor should you ever ask for someone to teach you. get off your lazy ass, reasearch what you want to do and find a solution.
Age
by a 'younger' person
I'm going to continue the conversation of age. I personally believe that age is unrelated to knowledge. Ok, so an older person would have more time to learn things than a younger person but that doesn't mean that he is more knowledgeable than him or vice versa.
This debate is starting to appear at the Wikipedia Youth Foundation discussion page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Wikipedia_Youth_Foundation). It is starting to get quite interesting. Let the events unfold! --~~~~
What does this code do....

For the dickwad who posted the script. WTF? The kid never said anything about knowing WSH or WMI. What's your point? That's a generic script straight out of the Scripting Guy's archive, man. Where's you're programming skills? You wanna challenge someone? Challenge me. I wrote the book on Windows Scripting.....literally. ;)

GO TEENS!!!!
by Daemon Reel
Way to go teenagers, that is the idea, now that all the geeky adults with no humility have told you to go and f..Off, showing absolutely no respect for you, what are you gonna do about it ha? You are right, these adults and those before them REALLY screwed up things for ya, so now its time to think... WHY is it that you want to learn how to do the ou so forbidden HACKIN. CRACKIN, SMAKIN, and there is your motivation Kids, so start diggin now and learn as much as your brains allow you to and when you feel you can do it... DESTROY!!! BREAK THE MACHINE APART AND TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN!!! IT HAS BEING CREATED TO CONTROL YOU!!! and that is the sad true, you are being lied to, and to the machine, the more stupid you get the more you deserve to be abused, none of these nincompoops care about you wanting to learn because thay think they now how to administer knowledge. Well they don't, if your IQ allows you to engulf entire books as soon as you can, if not, learn how to use P2P applications and see how stupid these ADULTS really are or grab yourselves VOip or a stolen CELLPHONE and start dialing 1800 numbers to see how far you can get inside the system that controls you, soon you will see more than you are supposed to and then and only then, become true revolutionaries. These adults will be on a wheelchair or strapped in tubes in a hospital room while you take over the world once and for all. I pray for that day to come, when a new generation of less lame ilk, has the balls to really question the integrity of this world that has being created for you. I am with you for any questions on how things work I am more than willing to teach what I know to anyone, I don't hide knowledge behind lame excuses or self absorving (howmuchIsufferedtolearnthis) bullcrap. The truth is out there kids, come and get it and turn it over these jerks, slap their faces with it, make them cry!!! they deserve it. And then make the world yours and share it with the ones you love. Things are simple, yet we make them so complicated. Jeeesh.

i mean really...
by paul
Why are people so harsh to each other in these forums? Don't you guys have anything better to do than slag people off when you really know nothing about them at all? Are you really that desparate to create drama in your life that you want to tell kids how stupid and enept they are, in effect discouraging them from learning. This seems like such an obvious attempt to build up your own ego, based on some piece of knowledge you have chosen to obtain. Do you really believe that makes you so superior? Come on, since when is being an enthusiastic kid/teen a crime and what are you really hoping to acheive by shooting these kids/teens down? It seems like its some of the adults in this forum who really need to do the growing up. Personally I respect these young people for having the curiousity and enthusiasm to even be contemplating these languages aside from what technical information they may or may not have learnt yet. Don't let these bitter adults burst your bubble guys.
Ya'll stupid???
by Acid_1
What the heck is all your guy's problems. I'm 17. K, I don't know much. I can do web based scripting (HTML, HTML 4.1, and little JS). That's about it. As for the 10 yr old, that's a load of bullshit. As said before, you can say hello in many different languages, this doesn't make you able to "speak" them. As the the 12 and 15... Maybe, I doubt it, really. You make comments such as that, and expect people to refer to you as intelligent beings? I think not. Grow up... I don't know scripting, or any of the PC or Mac based codes. My intentions are to start my own software company when I graduate. I can get past the school's blocks. This does not make me a hacker, it makes me a student with half an ounce of knowledge as to where the exploits in XP is. So, before you ask a question such as that, think to yourself, is it worth this?...

This is silly

"Kids by Sam Intelligent 10 year olds, 12 year olds, and 15 yer olds, your not old enough to understand how smart you arent. Grow Up."
Honestly this was a worthy paste, I just found this site today and was really more interested on the silly comments that I read, and like anyone else who's read them I wanted to post about it. This was really the easiest way since whoever wrote this knew exactly what I really wanted to say. I'm mostly writing this because a few days ago I was remembering how I was considering myself "all that" when I was 10-13 and I just realized how stupid I must of been looking, really you can never know everything and it takes growing up to understand that. Sure there are smart people and stupid people in this world but I'm pretty sure even as I grow up I'll realize that I was still stupid when I was this age.
You can never know everything, Never. So stop acting like you do, really no one cares, really.
Well I cared enough to write this but besides that no one cares.
5 Year old
by JaketheKid
I am 5 years old and already program in C#. I remember half my life ago when I was 2 1/2 I thought I was all that because I could walk and even talk. Back in the day when I was 4 seems like so long ago. I don't like the old 15 year olds that are 3 times my age with one foot in the grave talking smack. And does anyone out there make keyboards that fit a 5 year olds hands?

Intelligence
by 15...IQ 144...still can't program
Although much wisdom can come only with experiance, If a debate is going to go on about correlation between age and intelligence than I am going to have my say.
Teens are regularly talked down to by more adult people. This is only a statement of the ignorance of some adults, whilst many teens know how not to patronise others.
However most teens make stupid mistakes. And learn from them. Adults have already made these mistakes and try to provide valid advice (which is usually valid anyhow), however the only way for a teenage mind to learn these things is through experiance, and many adutlts tend not tor realise this.
I know people who studied at a higher level than mathematical Professers at 16 years of age at Oxford university.
You can never say that "All 15 year olds are stupid" or "all adults are old-fasioned and ruining our world", because there will ALWAYS be exceptions.
Vitality and Originality come with youth Intelligence never changes Wisdom is only gained through experiance

i am still in the womb and am waiting for a programming language. that caters to my needs. why oh why does the computer type community consistently ignore the unborn...
age matters?
by Terra
so if you're 15. that means you're supposedely utterly stupid? this is where prejudice comes in. don't judge people by their age. there are people who've experienced more shit in 15 years than in 60 years. it all depends on what you go through. so therefore, you're the dumb '15 year old'. judging by age and shit. get over yourself.

Lame.
by Skratz0r
This sucks, so much.
Someone goes through the trouble of making this pretty nifty script, agreed, yes, it doesn't work in Firefox... But still, pretty cool, and a nice effort.
And then some ... well, noobs, come along and destroy this comment page for all it's worth.
I have heard the "Teach me how to hack" question many times, and every time the asker gets the same answer, a torrent of insults, age-questioning and the like. Which is fair.
But if people want to "hack": - Invest some time in it - Learn to program - Install Slackware ;-)
And have fun. ;-o ~ Skrat
