I don't get it -- am I not so bright? I get names followed by random numbers. Are people from Italy naming their kids numbers now? Seems like a reasonable system.

The names you get are the ones generated, the numbers behind them are the frequencies of that name on Google, just to give you an idea, whether it is a real name or not and how popular the name is.
By the way, the Italians, or rather the Romans, did use to name their female children numbers (Octavia).

Uh...yes. Ignore your friend. That is incredibly ignorant...oh and not ALL the Romans were gay..such a broad statement. And how would you know anyway? The only way you could know is to have lived amongst the Romans, and been one of them, in which case, would you not also then be gay?

I have studied Latin so this is why all the Italian girl names end in "a"(Italin comes form Latin):
A declension in Latin is a group of words that share a common set of endings.
The 2nd declension ending is "a", and most 2nd declension nouns are feminine.
1st declension nouns end in "us" and most are masculine.
So this means that all Italian/Latin boy names end in "us"(Augustus, Quintus), and all girl names ends in "a"(see the list).

Actually, it was the Greeks, not the Romans, who were extremely tolerant of gay men (not women). The irony of this is that it was solely because of their sexism- they thought that women made relationships impure since they were "lesser beings". I believe that the Romans were much more homophobic.
