dot IANAL

Think of the .ianal (I am not a lawyer) domain as part of Internet filled with the old freedoms, protected by a giantic shrink wrap license. If you enter, you declare that you're not a lawyer or at least won't behave like a lawyer, that is you cannot use any information you'll find on this part of the Internet to sue anybody, not pass the information on to anybody without making sure this new person doesn't agree to the same license.

Pendulum

From our everyday observations it appears that a pendulum of a clock never rises above the horizontal going either way, and indeed physical law prohibits this in the absence of a force acting upon the pendulum other than gravity. But when no one is watching the gremlins sometimes hide inside the clock and the pendulum, driven by gremlin strength, not only rises above the horizontal, but passes the vertical and falls back down the opposite side that it rose on. This makes things a little tighter than they were previously and if it happens often enough and always in the same direction, for an extended time period... anyway we better get started on those gremlins. Hopefully we can keep them from being hurt by the gears in the clock.

The name sucks. "iANAL" ? I don't like *anal*-sounding names. There are lots of more attractive names, take .pub (public-domain) or .free

I think It's a great idea. I love the concept. but the ".ianal" I'm not sure of.

Well, nice idea, but why don't we build our own DNS infrastructure? We'd only need a few servers and support for it in the major browsers. Then it would be easy to register (for example) www,douwesinga,com

and i happen to LIKE the anal-sounding name. this whole project isn't going to work anyway and the added irony of the inappropriate name is what convinced me to participate.
